How PIP is Assessed

PIP looks at how your health condition or disability affects your ability to carry out a list of 12 activities.

Daily Living

  • Preparing food

  • Eating

  • Managing medication or therapy

  • Washing and bathing

  • Managing toilet needs

  • Dressing and undressing

  • Communicating verbally

  • Reading

  • Engaging with people face-to-face

  • Making budgeting decisions

Mobility

  • Planning and following journeys

  • Moving around

For each activity you are scored points depending on how much support you need. The Daily Living and Mobility components are separate amounts of money, and you can be awarded one or the other or both. Each component is paid at a standard or enhanced rate depending on how much support you need. Click here to see the PIP points system.
