Relax, Breathe, Sing

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

A UK-wide singing group for people with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and long covid!

Helped my mental health, gave me something to look forward to each week.

Do you hum along to yourself at home? Did you used to sing and haven’t done it for ages? Why not try our singing group – we’re offering free sessions, usually fortnightly, to anyone in the UK who has ME/CFS, fibromyalgia or long covid. The sessions are on Zoom, so you’ll be singing along with Helen who leads the sessions, but no one will hear you! You can sing from your sofa, your bed or wherever is comfortable – you don’t even have to have your camera on. You’ll just need a phone, tablet or laptop and be able to get on Zoom.

Lifted my mood, improved my breathing, reduced loneliness, and helped me develop a new skill. - Frank

Its an opportunity to connect with others and sing - even if we are 'together, apart'. No need to read music as all songs will be taught by ear and you can adapt the level of new learning to suit your mood and energy. There will be songs for many moods and everyone is welcome - no need to think of yourself as 'a singer'.

We will spend a short time at the start of each session exploring some gentle and relaxing warm-up exercises which may also be helpful at other times during the week. We'll end each session with a well-known (and hopefully well-loved!) song to sing along with, so we go on into our day with a song in our hearts.

Excellent mentally, gave me a lift. Wonderful to have company and sing. - Tina M.

Open to all people living with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and/or long covid across the UK!

You don't even need to be a paid member of Sheffield ME and Fibromyalgia Group to join the singing group.

Helen has been a professional choir teacher for years and has been running amazing singing sessions for the Sheffield ME and Fibromyalgia Group in the past.

The next sessions are shown on the registration page here - stay as long as you wish.

I loved the singing classes, it is so good for your mental health and general wellbeing. The sessions helped me manage ME symptoms, my pain levels were nearly always less following a session. Plus I have asthma so singing helps me keep my lungs healthy. They have also helped me better cope with the lockdown which has been very isolating, and helped me maintain social interaction. The classes also increased my knowledge in the field (I knew basically nothing before!), and made me feel better physically and mentally - Emma
